A new inverse method for determining the anomalous mean forcing functions responsible for climate change is presented. The method closes the mean field equations by representing the second order statistical moments as linear functions of the mean field. The coefficients of the linear parameterisation are determined by least-squares regression. The technique successfully reproduces the anomalous forcing functions responsible for the observed change in climate simulations between the periods July 1949--1968 and 1975--1994. References- J. S.
